What motivates a mentor?

Since our first chat back in August, 2009, it has been exciting to watch so many experienced PR industry leaders take time to participate in our #PRStudChat community. These successful practitioners are extremely busy and we greatly appreciate the fact that they take the time to share their insights.

Last week, during the NYC #HAPPO hour, I was talking with Peter Himler and I thought I would find out what motivates him to make the time to mentor and get involved with industry organizations and initiatives. As President of the Publicity Club of NY and founder and principal of Flatiron Communications LLC, a PR/media consulting firm in New York, Peter is no doubt very busy, yet he still took the time to participate as a guest for our November session.  So why would this former Chief Media Officer for Edelman Worldwide, and former head of the  Burson- Marstellar’s U.S. corporate and strategic media team and its worldwide spokesperson, take the time to mentor? I’ll let him share. Please excuse the background noise and my slightly off center camera work, and join us for a moment live at the #HAPPO hour!
